Sunflowers, Part 3 of 5

This time around, it's approaching dinner time for the Mansion occupants.  Lucas isn't very happy lately, and they soon find out that a lot of people are actually mad at Ness!
The group heads out later to the outside after a few hours, hoping to find the basement doors, and finally the 'Secret Garden'.

You guys will see more of Jigglypuff and Lucas, don't worry.  The story focuses on Ness for the most part, though.

=======

Ness sighed as he stared at the ceiling in his room.  Ever since this morning, Lucas had been ignoring him—several times during the day he tried making contact with the quiet blonde, but to no luck.  Lucas decided to keep his mouth shut and avoid everyone but the princesses... and it’s all my fault, Ness thought.  ‘Why did I have to care so damn much to READ HIS DIARY?!’

Dinner time was quickly approaching, and he was hungry.  Ness got up and headed out the door, locking it behind him.  Never again would he leave that door unlocked after Dedede found his stash of candy under his bed.  Pushing that memory aside, he walked on, soon finding Lucas talking to a seemingly pissed off Zelda.  Her arms were crossed, and when you saw her like that, she was NOT happy.

“Um… L-Lucas?” Ness stammered out, hoping he could separate Lucas from the princess without angering her further.

A huge miss--Zelda gave him a terrifying glare that could pierce diamonds.  She spoke sternly, not taking her eyes off of the boy for a second.  “What do you want?  You’re the last person he needs to talk to.”

“I just wanted to talk to him for about a minute… maybe even less, please?”

Zelda turned her attention back to Lucas.  “Go on honey, dinner’s being served soon,” Lucas nodded quietly and left, without a single glance at Ness.  “Stay strong, okay?”

After Lucas was out of sight, Ness pursed his brow.  “You see, that’s what I’m talking about!  I want to know why he doesn’t even make eye contact with me.”

“You know exactly why he’s doing this,” Zelda scoffed.  “And frankly, I’m disappointed in you.  If you want to solve this somehow, you’d better talk to someone else.  Not me, not Lucas.  As for me, I’m going to eat.”  She turned sharply and proceeded to leave, muttering something about dumb kids ruining her tea hour.

Ness sighed and began to take his usual path to the kitchen area.

“I really don’t understand women.  I really, really don’t.”

=======

The ‘kitchen area’, as it’s called, is shaped in the form of a common school cafeteria.  Master Hand said something about ‘less strain on the budget’ and ‘not a hassle to organize’.  Didn’t stop any food fights though.  Most of the Smashers act like five-year olds when it comes to anything food.  The most notable thing is when Bowser strangely says “OMNOMNOM” when he eats.  What the heck is a Nom, anyway?

Ness was in luck to see that there were a few pieces of breaded chicken left on the trays.  It wasn’t as noteworthy as steak, but it was something he liked to eat when that wasn’t made.  Better than what-the-hell-how-old-is-this pork.

He grabbed the last tray of nice-looking chicken and sat at the usual table.  All his friends were there, except for Lucas.  His seat was empty… now the table has this weird, incomplete feeling.  Toon Link waved at him to try and lighten Ness’ already down mood.  He took a seat next to the Hylian, right near the unoccupied seat where his best friend once sat.

“Heya Ness.  Lucas is still being a stubborn mule?”  Pikachu said, with a biscuit in his mouth.  “Figured, he’s got the mind of a girl.”

Ness rolled his eyes and looked down at his tray of food.  After what happened in the hallway before he came in, he suddenly wasn’t all that hungry anymore.  Though… if he didn’t eat now, Kirby comes in and sucks it up so it ‘won’t go to waste’.

“Don’t be so down,” Toon Link patted him on the back.  “He’ll come around, right when we get those flowers for him.”

“You’re right…  I hope so, because it’s all I can think of—“

Ness was interrupted by a familiar pink puffball pushing him and sitting in Lucas’ seat.

Toon Link gasped and held his chest.  “Gosh Kirby, don’t scare me like that!”  He tried pushing the ball out of the seat, but was slapped hard in the face.  “Holy Naryu…  that hurt!”

Kirby was at the other end of the table, drooling over Pikachu’s Pokémon kibble.  “Oh um, I’m right here guys!”  He wiped the drool off of his face and smiled at Toon Link.

“For your information, shrimp, I’m Jigglypuff, not that pink ‘tard Kirby.”  Jigglypuff sat up straight and began chewing on a piece of bread.  “I’m sitting here today.”

“Oh.”  Toon Link soon panicked and jumped out of his seat, rubbing the spot where he was slapped.  “GIRL COOTIES!  AAAAAHHHHH!!!”

“Err… why,”  Ness said, giving the Pokémon a confused stare.  “You don’t really like us all that much.”

“Because blondie took mine,” She took another bite out of her bread and pointed to the table in front of her.  “The girls insisted that he sits with them for today.  Poor guy’s been upset the whole time.”

Ness sighed and finished his chicken.  Looking over at where Lucas sat, he stared at the blonde intently, admiring his frame, those deep blue eyes, his cute little legs dangling from the seat… ‘Why do I have the urge… to come over there and just hug him?’

He continued to stare until his concentration was broken by a yellow paw snapping its fingers in his face.

“Hey!  Quit daydreaming!  We have to get going and get ready for tonight.”  Pikachu stepped down from the table, scurrying off to the Pokémon room.  As they finished eating, the group could hear a faint shocking noise.  Snake stepped on the yellow mouse’s tail again…

=======

The clock said 10:00 p.m., Smasher curfew.  Of course they all could stay up as long as they pleased, but nobody was allowed to leave the mansion for any reason.  That rule was implemented after Mr. Game and Watch became lost and nobody could find him for hours… not really.

Ness was back in his room, lying on his bed like before.  Staring into nothing.  He’d do this whenever he had something troubling on his mind, or if he was bored.

‘Lucas hasn’t come in our room all day… his bed hasn’t been touched, his diary is gone—oh, I just wish he’d come back... I miss him.  He’d always put a smile on my face if I was feeling bad.  He’s really sweet to me too…’

He stared into the ceiling for what seemed like forever.  ‘Well no wonder Lucas is constantly on my mind… he’s never been like this before.  Never mad at me.  He would always say, “it’s okay, Ness,” and smile, “you’re my best friend!”…’

Ness also thought about the plan he and his group had for tonight.  They’d start any minute now, and surely enough Pikachu will shock him right in the butt for being late.  Darn egotistical rat.  He sat up and rushed down the stairs, ignoring Captain Falcon who was in feety pajamas.  Out the door he went, hoping he didn’t have to get 1000 volts through his body.

=======

“So, we head out and find the basement doors.  Simple, doesn’t need any tricks, except we have to get past the weekly night guard.”  Red twirled his cap on his finger, and placed it back on his head.

“Nightly guard?”  Toon Link asked.

“Every few weeks they choose one of the aggressive Smashers and make them watch out at night in exchange for no battles for one week.  It’s a nice job for the most part since nobody really goes out after curfew.”

Ness interjected, continuing Red’s explaining.  “This week’s nightly guard is Wolf O’Donnell.  He’s got damn good eyes, so let’s not screw this up.  Please.”

“Aye-aye, Cap’n Big-Head,” Pikachu said with a smirk.  “Let’s get going, I need my sleep!”

Ness put his hand up to his forehead.  ‘Seriously, is it really big?  Naw..’

The group, consisting of Toon Link, Kirby, Red, Pikachu, and Ness, turned about the corner of the mansion.  It didn’t take them very long to find Wolf lounging on a part of the roof.  He appeared to be sleeping, his head lowered to his chest.

Toon Link whispered to the rest of the group, “Is he sleeping?”

“No.”  A gruff voice uttered itself from above.  Wolf actually wasn’t sleeping.  “Kid, if I fell asleep on this job I’d be fired.  You think I’m dumb?”

Kirby floated up and sat beside him.  “Hey mister Wolfy.  We’re on a mission!  Can you let us by please?”

Wolf pushed the puffball away.  “Eh.  I really don’t care.  I actually don’t want to do this joke of a job.  I’d rather be fighting than do night watching, cuz nothin’ even happens out here at night.  You guys are the first I’ve seen since I started five days ago.”

Ness looked the canine in the eye and spoke sternly.  “Well then, since you don’t care, why don’t you point us to the basement?  We’re not exactly able to see them.”  Wolf chuckled and pointed to the basement doors a few feet away.

“Good luck finding anything in there, kid.”
lol I typed some.
It's going to be five parts, I've got chapter four planned out already.

Part 1: [link]

Part 2: [link]

Summary:
Lucas has been depressed and down lately over the past few days. His best friend Ness and a few others (Toon Link, Pikachu, Kirby, Red/Pokémon Trainer, and Jigglypuff sorta) are greatly concerned, and don't know the cause of his sudden sadness.

However, when Lucas accidentally leaves out his diary for Ness to eventually read, the young Smashers come up with a plan to help Lucas be back to his old, more cheery self.

I do not own Super Smash Bros., or any of its related franchises. I wish could own a Mr. Saturn table, though.
Also this story is dedicated to my wonderful buddy/lover, Mel.
